Liquitex Professional Soluvar Matte Varnish is a solvent-based, removable final varnish that offers long-term protection and a glare-free matte finish for acrylic and oil paintings. Formulated with mineral spirits, this varnish shields artwork from UV damage, dust, dirt, and atmospheric pollutants—helping to prevent yellowing, fogging, or surface discoloration caused by humidity and light exposure. It dries to a non-tacky, flexible film that remains durable and breathable, making it ideal for exhibition, storage, and shipping. The matte finish is especially useful for reducing surface reflections, enhancing clarity in photography, or toning down glossy areas of a painting.
Soluvar Matte Varnish can be applied by brush, spray, or pad, with spray recommended for textured or fragile surfaces. Its self-leveling properties help achieve a smooth, even coating without visible brush marks. Fully removable with mineral spirits or turpentine—even years after application—it allows for future cleaning and re-varnishing without harming the underlying paint layer. As with all solvent-based varnishes, ensure proper ventilation during application and apply only to fully cured acrylic (72 hours to two weeks) or oil (six months to one year) paintings. Do not thin with odorless mineral spirits.
